About the event

Join us for an evening where Dr. Buchanan, the President of the Spokane Society of the AIA, will guide the audience through some of the basics of archaeological investigation techniques and how the associated legal frameworks that are critical to preserving cultural heritage and guiding responsible research practices help guide these practices. Various survey techniques will be demonstrated alongside an introduction to the work that happens before a trowel or spade goes into the ground, and how this work is both dictated by and guided by preservation law. This lecture is being offered to provide the Spokane AIA community a glimpse 'behind the scenes' on how and why archaeologists do what they do.
